lately, i haven’t felt like myself
but rather an old piggy bank
that someone keeps dropping
careless change into, refilling
it’s hope and purpose
people only come to me when they
absolutely need me, the cash in their
hand or card in their wallet are far more
sufficient to them than I ever will be
but with every coin that finds its
way to me, i welcome it in with
a grin on my face thinking that
maybe, this one will be different.

Bailey Gausling (she/her), more commonly known as Kitty Bailey, is a queer poet, multimedia artist, and songwriter from Las Vegas, Nevada. She recently moved to New York City to further pursue her career. She has her Associate of Arts degree in creative writing, is the winner of the Disrupción Records ‘FEELS’ Songwriting competition for the song, “What If You Fly” available on all streaming platforms.
