After Hours

by RC deWinter

sing me a new song
in the key of longing
filtered through the shadows
of everything you ever wished for
i promise not to laugh
or be dismissive
i recognize the color
of the those shadows
melancholy’s hazy halo
loneliness in almost midnight blue
i too am a dreamer
with my own song
a wisher
on the gentle evening star
there’s music in your voice
wisdom in your eyes
i await the unfolding
of your heart
