I am a Lion in Winter

by Andy Betz

I am a Lion in Winter, but a Lion none-the-less.
I ruled all I could see, with a sleep that troubled me not.
I commanded the denizens of Earth so no man forgot.
My legions spread before me and knew me as their King.
My allies heeded my call.
&&&&&&My enemies feared my curse.
&&&&&&&&&My lovers heard me sing.
But I reigned long and grew content with my trove,
of former incandescence, a target for those who loathe.
The fire that once drove my passions,
&&&&and powered my actions,
&&&&&&&now dwells silently within.
Fear not my outward complacency,
but the ease my fire may rage again.
&&&&&Too long I remained silent.
&&&&&Too long I remained hidden from view.
&&&&&Too long I spectated the deeds of others.
&&&&&Too long I witnessed my strength imbue.
For a man is who he is. I speak to all I address.
I return with a fury born of courage.
I will cause my share of stress.
I will tear asunder my enemies.
Hear the magnitude of their duress.
I am a Lion in Winter, but a Lion none-the-less.
