Divine Incantation

by Megha Sood

a poem is like a spell–
a memory moving through the shadows of time
like a divine incantation:
like a river flowing in your soul
boisterous,
unfettered;
unapologetic.
as it cleanses the crevices
those sluices clogged through eons
it paves its own way when it moves through its structure
a lexicon of words and its broken semantics
a language so deeply knows as it resonates
and touches every pore of our being
a poem is indeed a spell
which enchants you and me alike
cleaves us asunder
moving like a puppet under its influence
undulating between the proximity and prosody of pain
you dance to its rhythm
those mellifluous gestures
where every word
is spinning the magic kingdom
mirroring the beauty of a swirling dervish
spinning the yarn of words
which encapsulates you
and mesmerizes till eternity
a poem is indeed a spell–
a vibration existing in a vacuum
its sole purpose is to reverberate
to rattle you from within
till it strikes the resonance.
